We have a 6 month old cream legbar hens that upon going out to feed them this morning was found to just be laying on the ground not moving. When we picked her up she did move her legs and flap her wings, but she won't sit up on her own. She has fairly rapid breathing, mucus in her mouth but won't eat or drink an anything. Pupils seem normal but when you hold her she does this kinda weird neck twitch/sway thing. She has not laid yet so I don't know if she's egg bound. Any ideas???

Sorry about your pullet. Was she vaccinated for Mareks disease? Could she have been injured? You could rule out being eggbound by inserting a clean finger 1-2 inches into her vent to feel for an obstruction. To protect her from being attacked by others, it might be good to place her in a pen or wire dog crate with food and water secured within reach. If you can post a video of her to YouTube or Vimeo with a link posted here, that could be helpful. You may have to try several times a day to offer some food and water to see if she will drink. Poultry Cell or NutriDrench 2 ml daily for a few days could give her a boost.

Thank you. We checked on her again and she had passed. Not sure what happened. Doesn't seem to be mereks but we'll be watching the rest of the flock closely.
