Hi there, I've been picking up hints from this forum for years without ever joining! So.. Bleating from Derbyshire, British East Midlands . And thanks for all the tips!
I have a good sized garden, a big dry chicken run and roofed shed/enclosure with a metre cube solid hen house inside, and dead branches in the eaves of the enclosure for the more discerning bird.
I started with chickens 10 yrs ago. Soon after receiving an anaphyletic shock from some young ambitious bees in my recently acquired bee hive. I thought 'chickens! They won't be willing to kill me!'
I started with 3 bantam Australopse and after a couple of years moved to mixed colours of Brahmas and allowed them to flourish and have full access to my bank account. My, how they love those treats.
The height of my soppiness was to have a young brahma hen roost on my headboard for 3 months. She made the journey up and down the stairs every day.
From the peak of my feathered fettish of 17 LF Brahmas, I am now down to 6 hen's. 2 doting salmon Favorelle, 1 huge light Gray Brahma, 1 silver laced b&w Wyandotte, 1 Croad Langsham and 1 hen, who's father was a travelling man. No bantams.
I am looking for a LF. Soft feathered, mature Cockerel to make their day. I will likely post this particular request in a more appropriate forum thread, but let it be known . In a few years I expect to end my poultry activities to give me the time to do some travelling. I Expect when I am done with all the mileage I will start up again.
There you go. That's me In an eggshell.
Regards. Judy.
