Chicken palpating....not egg bound.

I do not suspect egg bound issues, but I am wondering if it is possible to "feel" the egg inside the chicken by palpating from the outside?

I will go in to further details if needed, haha. Basically I want to know who has an egg ready to be laid at one point and time and check once eggs emerge to see who laid what. We have somebody laying soft shells.
