My three chickens and my two dogs have gotten along very well since June. For the most part they basically ignore each other. My hubby had the dogs out this afternoon and the chickens came running like they always do thinking he had food. He was out there to kick leaves to my pug Leo who loves chasing them. I wasn't out there to witness but he said my speckled Sussex pecked Leo in his eye. He did say it didn't look malicious but he doesn't know chicken behavior. This is the SEVENTH eye ulceration in his 6 years of life ( bulgy eye pug issue). Needless to say hubby is saying that the chickens are not allowed to free range at all when dogs are out;( I can't very well put them in their pen every time one of the dogs needs to go. Upset and basically just venting.

Im so sorry to hear this happened. :hugsmy pit bull and our chickens got along great until the cockrel started coming of age then he started chasing her and even pecked her in the back side before i noticed. My mom had pugs and they had eye ulcerations as well. So sorry for your fur baby. Chickens like eyes because they are shiny.

Put the dog on a leash or the chickens in the run.

Good luck
Considering we just spent $8000 fencing our yard so the dogs wouldn't have to be leashed that's not likely. We are using 12 foot kennel panels and sectioning off of 50 ft stretch of the yard for the chickens today, in addition to their pen. Just makes me sad, they have been coexisting peacefully up until now
