Chicken pecking constantly on any objects with letters on it

My 2 backyard chickens constantly pecking on any objects Specially with letters on it. Why? Either sitting down or standing , they start pecking my shoes, clothes but there was nothing to peck on it . I can’t leave a cardboard box or plastic around with writing on it as they peck and peck and the sound is quite annoying. One of them even climb on my lap or table if she sees me using phone and start pecking the screen but if I put them To watch something on the telly, they won’t settle and still looking something to peck . Why is that, Any ideas guys?

Mine do that. They peck at anything and everything. Anything new, anything small. Shoes, they love shoes. I think chickens are just curious, and always looking for something yummy to eat. So they peck at everything, just in case it's edible....
