I have a sick chicken and I am trying to figure out what might be wrong. She is a 5.5 year old Midnight Majesty Maran. She hasn't laid an egg since last spring and I believe she is done laying. A few days ago I went out to do my evening check and she was in a penguin stance. She went after the scratch I threw out for them, but was moving much slower than the rest in that upright position. She has been inside for the last 4 nights. I don't think she is egg bound - no egg felt and she hasn't laid in months. Her abdomen isn't filled with fluid, so I don't think she has water belly. She ate some wet chicken feed the first couple days, but has less of an appetite today. She gobbled down a scrambled egg yesterday, ate an egg more slowly this morning, but is not interested in egg this afternoon. She is drinking water from a dropper (but won't drink from the waterer in her kennel I think because it is unfamiliar). Her poop looks mostly normal, though it is sometimes white and runny. She sometimes stands a little more normal, but it seems like it is hard for her to take steps and she moves very slowly. I found that she is missing a toenail on one of her feet, but don't see any foot injuries otherwise.

I'm kind of at a loss, what else might be wrong with her? I'm looking for home treatment options. I know she is getting older and she has slowed down in the last year. Age might be a factor (though it doesn't explain the penguin stance), but I want to make sure I've considered everything that I can. Thank you for any responses and help.

Many times standing or walking with a wide penguin stance is from internal laying which has lead to salpingitis or egg yolk peritonitis. Does she ever have any yellow urates in her droppings? Does her lower belly feel full and firm? Is her crop emptying by early morning?

Thank you for replying, I appreciate your help.

She hasn't had yellow droppings. They looked normal earlier this week when she was eating more chicken feed. They are smaller and darker today since she has had mostly egg the last 2 days and was a little dehydrated (she has since had water by dropper). No yellow in her poop.

Her abdomen doesn't feel firm, it is soft and squishy.

I'll check her crop tomorrow morning. This afternoon I thought it was a little fuller than I'd expect based on her eating, but she had just had some water.

Her crop empties. Her abdomen still doesn't feel abnormal to me. She has less appetite today, so trying to get her to eat and drink.
