chicken-proofing a rain barrel

I had to take chicken-proof my rain barrel. Again! Do you get frustrated by your chickens roosting where they are not supposed to? Apparently anywhere but their coop.

Ha!! Well, that's one way to do it.
Where does the gutter come into fill the barrel?

We had a gutter on the other side with a spout, But we moved the rain barrel over here because We don’t have gutters on the side and the water began digging a hole lol. We need to put a little gutter with spout up on the side as well, we just haven’t gotten around to it! I had to say I was surprised how fast the barrel filled up with out any type of spout, With just the water running off the roof. We enclosed the back porch and so it has changed things up a little bit as far as drainage.
