Help! We lost a chicken a few days ago to these same symptoms. The one that's sick is one of our tiny flock of three now. She is several months old, red sex-link (golden comet), not yet laying and she doesn't have a full comb yet. She has her wings out to keep her balance, which she's barely keeping. She's all puffed up, eyes closed most of the time. We were hoping her crop was impacted, so tried flushing it out with olive oil and then baking soda and water, but to no effect. Her eyes are also red and usually they're orange. She has only pooped once this morning.

Any ideas? I don't think we can afford a vet visit

We've had chickens for years and never any illnesses til this week. The last chicken only lasted a few hours.

At her age I would suspect coccidiosis. Here is a thread with information on symptoms and treatment. You can also search this site for additional information. If this is indeed what she has, it is important to treat her promptly. I'm hoping someone with more experience than I will come along and comment as well. https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=7735784

Thanks, unfortunately she was dead before you posted

I will read your link in hopes that it can help me keep from losing the remaining half of our flock!
