Ok, we were sitting around in the backyard and were wondering: are the eggs we eat, that is those purchased from our local grocery, both male and female? Also, do we eat both hens and roosters, just as we do turkey's?

Most likely the eggs you buy in the grocery store have not been fertilized, so they do not contain a chick embryo. Yes, the chicken meat you buy in the store can be either hen or rooster. The term pullet usually refers to young hens, but I suspect it also simply means young chickens.

Thanks for the input. Duh! Basic biology, right? Unfertilized eggs = no determined sex of the egg. Like I said: Chicken questions from a dummy.
