Chicken Run Flooring - Recycled Asphalt in Place

Hi! This is my first post, so thanks in advance! Husband is bringing home the chain link dog run we're using for our girls' coop protection and run area today. Super excited! Need help: The place we need to place the coop/run has recycled asphalt already in place. Neighbor says it will get hot for their feet, and to bring in fill dirt to cover. Any and all thoughts, ideas, experiences begged! We are in NE Colorado, just outside Denver. Weather out here is quite windy, a fair amount of moisture in season, including hail storms. (in case that info makes a difference)

I agree with the asphalt. I have concrete for my floor... so we have straw on the concrete, which keeps it pretty shaded. I did that mostly to keep their feet on something more natural and prevent them from getting sores on their feet.
