So I have a 13x9 chicken run that still has grass and I want the grass to stay as long as possible. Problem is because it's so hot out the poop is starting to smell a bit. How can I cover up the smell without covering the grass with sand or any kind of bedding? Is it even possible?

I think the only way around it is to build a tractor (a run on wheels) or make the run larger.

Horse bedding pellets would absorb the poop and smell, and they turn to sawdust when spent, so you could try just sprinkling those around. In our coop, we use them but have 3" or so, and zero odor.

I'm still very new to all this, but would barn lime cause problems with your grass? I keep hearing about people sprinkling it in their coops & runs, to kill mites & help with the smell. The expensive version is Saturday Lime, I believe, but barn lime is considerably less expensive, which might be good if you're trying it out.

I will have to look that up. Thank you for the suggestion!

You can use a dog poop scoop rake. I scoop my run and chicken yard.
Your poor grass does not have a chance but, scooping up the poop will help with you oder issue.
