Hi, I am a new chicken owner and right now the girls are a week old and in the brooder doing very well. I am slightly stuck because I have a very nice chicken coop with 6 nesting boxes, however I would like for thwm to have a nice big run but still be protected especially my long work hours. Can I see some ideas because I feel stumped and do not have tons of extra money to spend?

Here’s my set up. A converted playhouse for my 6 hens and a fully enclosed 12x12 run. HWC as fencing fastened with screws and washers and a 18in anti dig skirt around the entire perimeter fastened to the bottom board in like fashion and secured to the ground with 12in U shaped galvanized tent stakes and a tin roof with no gaps, etc.

The HWC is 1/2in, 19 gauge. Good luck!

Find a used dog kennel for sale or someone giving one away, cut a hole in the kennel wiring to allow access between your coop and the kennel run, and attach hardware cloth 2’ up the kennel wall and a 2’ apron on the ground. I put my kennel next to a existing fence, put some extra vinyl fencing on another side, put on the hardware cloth as mentioned, and then added 1x2 fencing on top with a tarp as the roof
Picture is while I was 80% into the build
