Hi, everyone. I'm new to this site- it's great! I've been keeping ten chickens in a 20 X 20 run for about 5 years, and my question is this: someone told me that I could put a divider down the middle of the run, plant a fast-germinating grass ( like rye or wheatgrass) on the side the chickens aren't on and keep alternating the grass and chickens from side to side so they would always have something green to eat and peck at. Anyone ever heard of this? I don't want to go through the trouble if ten birds will destroy a 10 X 10 area faster than the grass can come in. Unfortunately, free-ranging isn't an option in my community. Thanks for your help!

WELCOME!!,well i dont know about that so i will give your post a bump!

You can divide it and plant. Once the chickens go in they will eat and scratch it to bare dirt before you know it. You'll just have to lather, rinse, repeat if you want more to grow.
