My family and I are thinking about getting chickens but my mom is not all in, mostly because we travel a bit and she doesn't want to give my dog and cat sitter the responsibility of chickens plus one cat and two dogs. Are chickens really a big hassle, how often do you have to feed them?Do they also eat compost type stuff, like left over salad, rind of water mellon?................................
If this doesn't help with my mom do you have anything that I could tell her that might persuade her to getting them. Pros and cons???? THANX!!!
! Pleased you joined us! Chickens, if left with plenty of food and water, don't require a lot of maintenance. The dog/cat sitter could look in on them but as I said, if they were in a secure coop and food and drink to last....there's not a whole lot more to do with them than if you were there. Now, if you are talking hens, the eggs would have to be gathered daily. Maybe make a deal with a neighbor - if they look after the birds in your absence, you will provide them with eggs or a chicken or two to eat??? Hope you folks let you get some poultry! Good luck to you!
