Chicken Squat

I'm very excited my Welsummer just squatted when i went to pet her i gave her a little scratch on the back and she shook her feathers and went on with her day the reason im excited is because supposedly this is a sign there going to lay and i wanted to know when did your hen start laying after she did her first squat?

For mine they squat like this after they have been bred by my rooster a few times. They may see the you as the top of the pecking order and submit rather than get run down like they do with the rooster.

That is exciting!! With my first, she started laying about four days after "the squat". My second did it in two! I'm definitely no expert, and could have missed that as a sign, but they did start laying fairly soon after I noticed it.

I had one squat a week before laying and I have several others that have been squating for weeks and still haven't laid. Just depends on the chicken.

The chicken curtsy is a sign of sexual maturity and so a strong sign that you will soon have eggs.
