Chicken squatting

Hey! One of our marans is just squatting this Morning. She’s about 17 weeks old so I’m wondering if she’s going to start laying soon? Or she hurt her leg?? Any thoughts?

Is she doing that by herself, or when you put your hand over her?

By herself, she normally isn’t the most friendly but she didn’t budge when my husband went up to her

Squatting is usually a test by putting your hand over them. Once they are ready to lay, they do that to let the rooster hop on. Lol. I'm not sure about marans, but my earliest chicken laid her first egg at 20 weeks.

It's likely she will lay soon.
Her comb is bright red too.
Squatting generally happens when they are close to POL. I would be eggspecting eggs from that girl soon.

I think she's older than 17 weeks. She looks older anyway.

I got all of them the week of March 23 from TSC. I’m not really sure but they were all chicks!
