Hi everyone, I have a 4 year old silkie hen that was treated several weaks ago for a parasite infection and worms with antibiotics.
Successfully, it seemed, her poop is back to normal, more or less (the colour is a bit off,and the white a bit orange-pinkish). However, she is still weak and wobbly and eats a bit slow.
What can I do to help her recover fully?
Thanks!

Welcome to BYC. Were you dealing with a vet to confirm parasites, what worm or parasite was causing infection, and what exactly were you using to treat? Antibiotics are specific for certain bacteria, while wormers or antiprotozoan drugs may be used on certain infections. Coccidiosis can be treated with Corid (amprollium.) Many wormers do not treat some specific worms, or need to be given for several days. It can be hard to guess what is going on without a fecal float to test if medicines were effective or not. Many medicines are only available through a vet nowadays. Using probiotics (or a tsp of plain yogurt 2-3 days a week,) making sure that she is eating and drinking enough of a balanced diet, and sometimes using a poultry vitamin in the water or given orally may help with recovery and immunity.

Thanks so much for your reply! sorry for my belated answer. Stupidly enough, I dont know which worm it was, the medication used was Marbocyl and Metacam (antibiotic and anti-inflammatory). Through the microscope only a few worm eggs were visible (I had also dewormed her with an over the counter dewormer).
She is still more or lessthe same, maybe a little better. The fecal flaot was clean. She is eating on her own, and I am giving her yogurt, like you suggested.
Can a full recovery really take weeks?

Hopefully, she will continue to improve over time. With chickens, there is a certain amount of guesswork involved in diagnosing. Sometimes an infection will occur, and there can be an underlying immunity problem from something else. Wishing her good luck.
