woke up this morning, and went out the garage to check on the babies. There are four and thus at a month old they were getting too big for their brooder (a plastic storage container). So a week ago I moved them to an old kids wagon I had from when I was little. It has slotted sides and the perfect hight to house 4 chicks. I had some left over screen (used for screening doors, similar to mosiquito netting) and put that over the top, and clamped down with heavy duty clips from my dad. It was the perfect set up-easy for hosing off when soiled, great airflow thru the sides when the outside temp hit the high 80s/low 90, and on wheels-outside in the day.
Anyway, it seems to good to be true. I went out this morning to find the biggest chick Eduardo dead.

He stuck his head thru one of the slots and got stuck. he apparently flailed around loosening the boards, yet remaining trapped. It must have been early since I checked on them at Midnight, and by 6 he was cold and hard. The others (and I have no clue how)

had escaped and were loose (thank god it was closed) in the garage. I had to leave by 630 to go to my Great Grandmas funeral 3 hours away so I had no time to do muck but put them back into their old brooder with H2o and food.
I feel so bad about Eduardo tho-he was my favorite.
