Happy Holidays To All,

I would like to completely remove some bermuda grass from some areas of my yard so that I can make some vegetable gardens. Will running chicken tractors over the area completely remove all bermuda grass and seeds from the area?

Thank you,

JB

Try it! I have no Bermuda grass here, but we do have witch grass which may run those stolons even deeper. I would expect the chickens would do a fair job digging out the surface stuff, but you may still need to do some hand work. If you place your garden beds over the spot they have worked up, and then plant, and use a deep mulch (do some google searches re: books by Ruth Stout, and watch the "Back to Eden" film) you should have a wonderful garden. I got chickens mainly for their garden assistance. Eggs, meat and entertainment are merely an added luxury.

Thank you.
Sounds promising. Do you per chance know of a breed of chicken that would do a good job at that here in central NC?
Best,
Jim

As for breed, any large fowl will eat it's weight in grass and bugs given the chance. If you can till the area for them, not a lot just expose the roots then get out of the way.

Your welcome. My flock has successfully cleared an entire acre for me with just a little assistance from my husband. He tills twice a year for them to get all the roots.
