I'm thinking about getting into the chicken raisin biz and was wondering what your thoughts are on just using a chicken tractor for the chickens permanent residence. They would be able to free range during daytime hours.

Kind of depends on where you live. I doubt it would good for the UP of Michigan or Buffalo, but in areas where you don't have a lot of snow it's a great option.

I'm in NC, I have 3 and working on a few more.

I stay in Louisiana. Probably only going with 3 or 4 hens at first. Thinking Welsummers are a good breed to deal with the heat. I know this is the chicken coop thread but while I have your attention I might as well ask. Is it necessary to get chickens vaccinated when you order them?
