If the sides of it are covered at night so that the birds are protected from the elements, does the chicken tractor need a bottom? Should put concrete blocks around the edge to discourage predators?

We used half inch hardware cloth to make a "skirt" around the bottom of our tractor to keep predators from digging into it.

It extends 12" out from the bottom of the frame and is tacked to the ground with garden staples/stakes. When we get ready to move it, I just pull up the stakes, twisty tie up the hardware cloth and restaple the cloth when the move is done.

Hope this helps!
