Chicken treats

I'm trying the first recipe right now, but do you think I have to have Calendula petals or the third ingredient on the list? Also what is scratch?

Sorry, not sure the the importance of the calendula (probably not but who knows:idunno) and cat food (this seems like it would affect the recipe consistency more than the calendula though).

Scratch is a mix of grains used as a chicken treat. Usually it is corn heavy and cheaper than chicken feed but sold along side it at feed stores.
Here are a few commonly available scratch products:

I saved these recipe links because they looked fun/interesting, but have not tried them myself:

I have a small meal worm farm that I just set up since live mealworms are near the top of my girls' likes.

If your hens like alfalfa then your birds are different from mine. Most chickens will not willingly eat alfalfa unless you hold a .38 revolver to their temple. I honestly believe that a chicken that eats alfalfa with gusto is a starving chicken.

I suspect that the chickens will pick out the BOSS, dried mealworms & scratch, but the molasses, banana, eggs etc may make the alfalfa palatable.

But, as I said I haven't made either recipe.
