Hi, I’m Kristen (chicken virgin)! My husband (not a chicken virgin) has been begging me for 3 years to have chickens. Last Wednesday we went to FFH with our 4 year old in tow. Guess what…..we ended up walking out with 5 New Hampshire reds pullets, 3 assorted chicks (also pullets), and one Pekin duck (my son begged for). My daughter whom was in school when we made the purchase loved them but wondered why my son had his own duck. The next day I went back to FFH and bought a second duck and this really sweet “unknown” pullet chick while the kids were in school. My husband built the broader box and we set them all up. These are much visited little guys, because we just can’t get enough of them. First thought….My how they grow! Second thought…..Wow they eat a lot! We just found a wonderful used coop that we are going to make new before they are ready to leave the “nest”. So…….HI…..and on with our adventure together!

! Pleased you joined our flock! You might want to build a second smaller coop for the ducks - there will likely be trouble once the pekins, who grow quickly, start picking on the smaller chicks and, if any of the ducks are males, they will cause serious damage to the hens if they try to breed them later. And, ducks are just a sloppy and will trash the brooder and coop for the chickens. All that said, good luck to you and have fun with your new additions!!
