Chicken wheezing out of no where

My white Cochin started wheezing today for some reason. She laid her first egg in the am and was singing up a storm.
I checked on her a few hours later and she developed a wheez with almost every breath. I tried giving soaked bread in olive oil but it did not do much. Any suggestions?

Is she sneezing or gasping as well? Does she seem to be in distress? It would be good to hear what she is doing, in case it is stridor, a sound that occurs when a small piece of food gets stuck inside the airway. It also can occur if there is mucus or swelling inside the airway from a respiratory infection. Regular wheezing can occur with any respiratory disease. It would be good if you could download a video to YouTube with a link posted here. This video is the stridor sound in case that is what your hen is doing:

thank you for the reply, that’s almost the exact sound she was making, she hasn’t been sneezing though. I think she was getting riled up since I was handling her a lot and she started to breathe heavily with the wheeze. I’ve quarantined her for a couple of hours and she doesn’t have the wheeze anymore but when she make noises I can still hear that she’s not 100%. She’s been eating and drinking normally too

Well, hopefully she will stop doing that in a few hours or overnight. Many times it disappears if they cough up the piece of food or mucus plug. I had a hen that did this when she would eat too fast. It lasted a couple of hours. There are many BYC threads with similar results. If there are any other symptoms or it doesn’t go away by morning, let us know.

Make sure that she is drinking enough water. More than one waterer in several locations can be good in case she is being kept from water. She might be dehydrated or getting sick. Is she having any problems with balance or walking?

No she seems perfectly fine other than the wheeze which is very minimal now and the droopy wings
