My poor girl Boomerang has a pretty gnarly beak injury. She’s about 8 months old and has lived a very normal life with her crossed beak. My daughter alerted me that she was injured and I’m not sure how to proceed with helping the poor girl. Any suggestions?

It looks like the whole top beak is cracked off and got twisted. Poor baby, she is most definitely in a world of pain right now. A tiny chip in my chicken’s beak made her not eat for a few days due to the pain, as a scale of how bad it is.

You need to get that beak trimmed down, but it's going to be impossible to do now. Is it loose? If it is, she'll likely get it caught on something else and finish pulling it off. Put her in a dark place (to keep her calm) alone. If you're use a kennel, cover the sides with cardboard to avoid her catching her beak on the bars. You may need to tube-feed her until she's better.

For cleaning, you can use a Saline rinse. Hold her beak toward the ground if you pour so she doesn't swallow it.
