Hi Friends! Happy Easter!

We have a 7 month old Delaware that has done something to her middle toe on her right foot. A week ago I noticed her limping.

We researched many threads here and initially thought bumble foot but after soaking in epson salts and cleaning thoroughly there are no wounds, lacerations, dark spots/scabs with puss so we eliminated that. We think it is a strain or broken toe? Her middle toe on her right foot is swollen and puffy.

She acts 100% normal, eats, lays eggs, drinks water; she just limps and it's swollen, she is very gentle with it. We have continued epson salt soaks, have occasionally wrapped with vet tape for support, and I just gave her a dose of meloxicam that we had left over from when she ripped half her comb off (she is our problem chicken!)

Is there anything else I can do? Or do I just wait it out? I feel so bad for her and want her to get better.

Thank you!

I think that you are doing all that is necessary for the injury now. The vet wrap support might make it less painful, but it will get better in a few weeks. Meloxicam is good, and aspirin can be used instead—325 mg per 240 ml (8 ounces) of water.

Thank you!! Do you just crush up the aspirin and mix it in the water?
