Flock locked in a run each night. Kids let them out this morning where they run with some pygmy goats. Since had this arrangement have had not injury or loss of hens. I think the goats protect the hens. Within 3 hrs something had mauled this hen's neck. A large area of feathers. We sprayed her neck with 3% hydrogen peroxide. Hopefully will keep the flies off which were swarming her.

We have several cats (none are new) and they have never shown any aggression (or much interest) in the hens.

What other treatment should we try? I have her segregated from the rest of the flock.

You may want to put some triple antibiotic ointment or Vetericyn on the wounds. It is important that you keep flies off the wound so they don't lay egg and cause FlyStrike.

Check her the rest of her body for any other wounds that may be hiding under the feathers.

Do you have somewhere you can cage her for several days so she has some protection?
In the photo she looks a bit stressed, so see that she is staying hydrated and eating.

Thanks for the responses. She didn't make it thru the night. I assume shock was too severe. I wish I knew that cause the injury. I think the rest stay in their run for a while.
