When I went to collect eggs today, I found my chickens had attacked and ripped the back part of the comb of my gold laced Wyandotte, Toffee. I’m not sure when this was, since I did not go in the chicken’s coop yesterday. She seems to be acting fine as of now. Is there anything I can do to help her? Anything I can put on it? Should I separate her until it heals? It’s hot here and there are lots of flys. Any help is appreciated. Is there anything I can do about the aggression? I have all hens and the one who got attacked was part of a new batch I integrated in months ago, however the original hens are still mean and will chase or bite the newer ones. Thanks!

Do you have a rooster? Sometimes if a rooster has a favorite hen they can end up in pretty bad conditions, I recently had to re-home my roosters favorite hen. If you don't, is she low on the pecking order? I could see a few mean hens doing that to. Or if she got into a dominence fight.with a hen. I would just put some antibiotic ointment on it and let her stay with everyone else. I'd also watch for bullying.

I have only hens. She isn’t super low in the pecking order, however she is part of a batch I introduced in the spring and the original flock bullies ALL the new ones. They have been integrated for months and are the same size. I have no idea how to get the original flock to quit being mean. I got some blue ointment on her so they won’t peck it as to keep the flys off. I’m going to monitor her for infection and put her on antibiotics if needed.

My chicken did that to herself by sticking her head through the chicken wire for a tasty bug, ripped her comb half off on the way back in. She’ll be fine!
The run is mostly hard wire mesh, so I don’t think that was the cause. She was looking a lot better tonight when I checked on her. The original hens were still being bullies, but they didn’t reopen the wound. I’ll monitor her.
