I had an Americana hen who was about 6 years old and of course was my favorite hen. She hadn't laid much this year, so I attributed it to her age. I noticed about 4 weeks ago that her abdomen was swelled. She still looked healthy, eating and drinking, but felt a little thin around the keel bone. Today, I went to the chicken lot and found her on her back dead. No sign of trauma. No blood, no poo, just some water came out of her mouth when I picked her up. I looked her over and noticed her abdomen was no longer swelled. Has anyone else had this happen? Just wondering if it could have been a tumor that burst and caused her sudden death. No signs of any kind of tumor drainage that I could find.
