This bantam has had a swollen eye for about 5 days. She a bit lethargic. I can tell she doesn't feel 100%
When I noticed it, I thought she was pecked by another chicken. Could this still be the case?
When I pried her eye open her eyeball was cloudy. Not good. I'm afraid she has lost vision in the eye.
I've been treating her with essential oils.
I used lavender w/ a carrier oil at first 2x a day. Just switched to purification (its a young living one i had on hand)
yesterday. She does open the eye a little bit now. So the big question is...
Is it an injury?
Is it from a mosquito bite that is infected?
Is it from a gnat bite that is infected?
I live in NE Iowa and we have had so much rain that the mosquitoes and gnats are horrible!!!! I can't wait for a
killing frost!
The chickens are free range but they are smart enough to stay in the barn when the gnats & mosquitoes are bad.
Thanks for any help.
