I'm looking after someone's chickens for the week and one of them won't come out from under their house. I know it's alive because I can see it breathing but it's leg looks like it's in a funny position and its breathing seems very heavy. I know chiuckens do funny stuff with their leg though so it could be normal so i took some pictures to try and illustrate the situation:

Can anyone tell from that if there's a problem with the leg and if not what might be wrong? Is it safe to try and move her? I'm worried that she doesn't have any food there, I could try and throw some where she can reach wirth her beak, is that a good idea?
Sorry if this is silly, I don't really know a lot about hens.

I can take some more pictures if necessary.

Does she stretch one leg out front and the other back?
If so, this is classic symptom of MD(I really hate to say so).

The other one is kinda in front but it looks like its in the normal position to me. I'll take a photo in a second. I just realised I should maybe mention they don't go under their house normally so it looks like she crawled under there, I'm not sure if that has an effexct but maybe it indicates it's not a bad leg? It's raining so she could be taking cover.

okay, when I went out to take another photo, her leg was back where I think it normally goes but she's still curled up under the house. I hope this decreases the chance of mareks disease because it looks nasty.

Given the new developement, do you think I should move her now or something?

Yes, I think you can move her somewhere else. I really hope it's not MD. Bless!

Ok, I've moved her into the house. She just looks like she's sleeping now, but she still seems to be in an uncomfortable position, her wings are slightly spread out. If anyone has any other ideas about what to do I'd be really grateful!

I really feel sorry for hearing that. MD probably is the most nasty chicken disease.
