I'm located in Birmingham Alabama, I have been keeping chickens for the past 5 years, this year i am getting into bee keeping for local honey, I don't know if I will sell but mainly for my husband who has severe allergies and I have always heard that real honey helps with that. I have ordered my hives and am planning on setting them up at our river property that is about 30 minutes away. Is there anyone here (Backyard Chickens) that also works with bees? I've heard that it is beneficial to the chickens to consume some of the bugs and bee larva I didn't want the bees set up here at home but now i'm re-thinking that. I cannot let my chickens free range here just too many fast cars if they wander into the street and then in the back (we have no fence) there are so many wandering dogs. We do let them out for about an hour before dusk (while we sit and watch them). I guess i'm just trying to find out if i should consider setting up some hives here at home. thanks y'all

How much land do you own? My father is a beekeeper, I know some things about bees...

At home we have a corner lot at the river not sure of acreage but lots of land we own part the other part is family and their on board with the bees they used to own like 20 hives and they tired of it. Thanks for responding

I keep bees.

The chickens LOVE when I cull drone comb. They shred it for every spare larvae. Otherwise they leave the dead bees in front of hives alone.

If you want them closer (new beekeeper I’d suggest keeping them close so you can observe them) they will coexist beautifully.
