(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
We brought home 8-week-old pullets on my birthday last year, May 4.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
(3) What breeds do you have?

Currently, we have five! Of course, we wanted to have themed names so we went with Harry Potter. We have a buff orpington - Molly Wingsley, an easter egger - Hermione Free-ranger, a blue cuckoo maran - Bellachix Lestrange, a blue laced red wyandotte - Helhena Ravencaw, and Olivander the Olive Egger.

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?

Raising our girls has been so rewarding. I learn something new from them all the time. The are constantly teaching me about mindfulness and listening to my body. Their sweet personalities are so much fun, I can just sit outside listening to them and the wild birds chirp.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

We have a 1954 mill house in western NC, so there are plenty of home projects. My partner and I love to read and garden.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

In addition to our girls, we also have a BUNCH of cats. They co-exist so peacefully it looks like a chicken and cat sanctuary, hah!
