My Muttilda is a beagle/border collie and only chases teh chicks if they try to steal her treat...it's rather amusing really, as she wouldn't lay a paw on them but just loves to ruffle their feathers. I think it's all in the temperment. Training can help but only a dog with the right temperment can really be trusted. That being said, if Muttilda ever hurt a chicken, I'd be shocked and angry, but alas, she is a DOG! My crazy hen, Camilla, chases my dog and cat...sometimes I have to protect my 86 lb. dog from my 6 lb. chicken! Lol!
