I just put some fine dirt/dust in an old dish pan down for the chickens to investigate. They had lots of fun with the sand I had in earlier. I've seen birds take dust baths but never saw one almost roll on its back, feet flailing in the air, enjoying a roll! They'll have to take turns because this container is 1/3 the size of the one that had sand.

I think some of my favorite entertainment is to watch them dust bathe....sad huh? ...but it's hilarious, and the "almost completed roll" is my favorite next to the dusting of the wing pits. I think it's about good enough to be an Olympic event.

I also enjoy watching them "roll" in the sand box. I have a 3ft x 3 ft sand box and my pullets love it. I saw all of them (9) in it today although they have to take turns when it comes to "bathing". We are in South Texas where it is very hot at this time and it seems that it helps them to cool down when they lay in the dirt.
