chickens and grass

Our backyard has not been treated (I refused because we're growing a lot of veg back there), so there'll be no issue giving them clippings from the back. How ever, Hubba did feed/seed/weed on the front. How long does it take for that stuff to become a non-issue? My compost is getting so full & untill we build another, I'd love to have an alternate place to dump the clippings.

As far as a weed-and-feed treated lawn, once you've had a couple good rains *and* the grass is not growing totally berzerkly (you know how sometimes right after it's fertilized it grows super fast and super dark green for a little while?) then it is safe to put in the chicken run. Make sure that you, or the chickens <g>, spread it out in a thinnish layer rather than having it stay in one big pile where it can develop considerable mold after even just 36 hrs.

Although, I feel compelled to add that if you just use a mulching mower and leave the clippings *on the lawn* your fertilizer use would drop considerably, by leaving most of the nutrients there for the lawn to reuse.

Good luck, have fun,

Pat

We just moved here in August and it was uninhabited for a year prior. So we've been digging, tilling, weeding, pruning. etc for a few weeks now to get it under control so we don't have to do this all over again.

As far as rains, we don't get much rain, but we use the sprinkler almost daily. Will that suffice?

Sure, several good sprinklings should wash it off the grass
