I just wanted to pass along that I decided to put some raked leaves on the bottom of the coop floor (right now it is dirt) and the girls seem to love it! I had read an article that said in the winter it's nice to put a "bedding" down if you have a dirt floor because it gets cold for them to stand on. I figured leaves couldn't hurt plus they should compost down and maybe bring some worms in? They love to scratch the floor and "rake" the leaves looking for food.

I am putting two entire trees worth of leaves in the run.
Bit by bit. If I put them all in there at once the chickens would have to burrow through them

I use them in the coop.
and the chickens love it.
Cheaper then straw too.

If you put leaves in the coop, then how and how often do you clean it out? Are you in a winter ice and snow area? Just trying to figure out how this works. I thought putting leaves in the run was a great idea, but just now thinking about the coop.
