Hi, have been raising chickens over 15 years and decided to get a couple turkeys. They have so much more personality!! Actually got them because my husband wanted them. So glad we did. This is our second attempt, had one survive out of three the first time, then one afternoon it was just gone! It was HUGE, we found no fearthers, it just vanished. My husband was UPSET! Tom had followed him everywhere. So we waited a couple years and decided to try again. We got 4, lost 2, now the the two that lived are about 5 Months. The one we think is a girl, has a very swollen foot, thought it nimble foot, but no black spot. We have no vet in our area who doctor chickens, so decided to search backyard chickens as if done in the past. Decided to join to get more info. So grateful for this site!!

Please post on the Turkey forum. I'm sure they know a great deal about them. Do you think the turkey that disappeared may have been "turkey napped." Sometimes you have to consider two legged predators among the others. Sad but true.

Welcome to Backyard Chickens!:frow Glad you joined the flock! BYC is a very helpful and informative about poultry! Sorry to hear about your turkey loss! Bumble foot is caused by an infection causing the foot pad to swell. Nails and other sharp pointed objects can cause this. Hope you enjoy it here as much as we all do!
