blueseal,

It isn't much better here in Standish.

My girls have a fount heater so their water usually stays liquid. It has to get well below zero for it to freeze.

You couldn't get the chickens here to go out as long as there is snow around, the birds I have just look at it and go in the opposite direction.

It's going to be a chilly one tonight, will likely need to keep the stove turned up.

I was a little concerned as a new chicken owner, about the cold. My birds seem to be handling things very well. No heat, no insulation in my coop and I'm dealing with the same cold front down here. They're all out in the run today and gave me a good number of eggs. We had a low temp a few weeks ago of 5 and 9 degrees and I've found no signs of trouble. I think my greatest accomplishment has been seeing no frost on my coop windows...EVER, or inside the coop itself. I guess my ventilation system is working well.

Another cold night ahead tonight, a predicted low of 4-5 degrees, possibly 0. I worry about them but I know they'll be fine. My coop by the way with a good amount of litter was 5 degrees warmer than the outside temp this afternoon.

Stay warm.

i noticed my coop was alot warmer than outside today too. it has no heater or insulation. my birds are doing fine. i think they were happy to be in today and not out in the wind. i got 16 eggs from 21 hens/ pullets today. they have laid 90 eggs since sunday.
