I started raising chickens a little over 5 month ago. Brand new at doing this whole chicken thing, my husband brought home some baby chicks. Instantly I fell in love and went a got a few more. Once they started getting feathers and were easier to tell apart, my children and I started naming them. Do you name your chickens? My husband laughs at me and shakes his head. Every day about the same time I feed them, as I come up to their coop/run I yell out to them," Hey Girrrrlllllssssss!!!!!!!" They all tell back and make a BUNCH of noise. I love it!!! They love their Momma! Or maybe it's just because I feed them. Lol =)

Welcome to BYC from California wine country in the Western Sierra Foothills! :frow

Nearly all of my flock members have names. I do wait for the youngsters to be a bit older before i try to name them......

I have conversations with various birds all the time. One of my Australorps, Molly, is very talkative, telling me all the flock gossip.

I talk to my girls too! My neighbor caught me doing it one day. She asked me," Are you talking to your chickens?" I said, yep... their my babies. She giggles and told me not to feel bad she talks to her cats. Lol

My girls in their run and previous one Chicken Licken in the shade at the back of the run.
