Chickens dying lease help

I have just started raising chickens and I have had 3 die. Only sympton is eyes matting close with water coming out .the first two was my first hens but the last one i have had only a month. found one when i got home today that has both eyes closed, and its a new one.hope someone can help.

Any other symptoms? The eyes matting could be pecking, but also could be signs of some sort of respiratory disease. Respiratory diseases are very contageous. First and foremost, don't bring any more new ones in. Have you contacted your department of Agriculture? Here in GA, if a chicken dies of a mysterious illness, the DofA will do a necropsy and let you know what killed it. Free of charge (finally, something my tax dollars pay for back to me!). I don't know about NC, but the GA DofAg were great and helped me figure out what was wrong with my flock and how to handle. Now I have a new flock, disease free and healthy at 21 weeks old.

Good luck to you in figuring this out. It can be very worrisome. Sorry you are having such a terrible time.
