Ok I feel really quilty -- We have been working on a new coop that will give the girls ( and roo ) a warm place for winter - I finally got it all together this morning had the chickens around it for the past week letting them walk in and check things out so it would not be " new " to them.
Well for the past month or so they have been sleeping in a dog kennel with branches in there for perches its fine for the summer months. I left the old cage in place because I knew they would start going to bed on thier own and I was able to pick each one up and put them in the new coop ( closing door after each one) well after everyone was in they were making all kinds of noise and staying huddled together by the door a few tried to jump at the chicken wire that cover the windows so I had to close the shutters so they would not hurt themselves,
what I feel quilty about is that they are so confused right now not even going to the perches -will they understand that I am not trying to be mean? when will they put themselves to bed like they did with the old pen?
also my ducks are kinda stressed out - normally the ducks can see the chickens in the kennel now they cant see them only hear them and they are hanging around the coop door -like they miss the chickens - the ducks are getting thier own yard ( hopefully next weekend) along with a " duck" house to sleep in.
I am just wondering if everyone will settle down and that I am not stressing them out, just want everyone safe for winter.
Am I a bad mommy???
should I take the old kennel down so they will not have it to try and sleep in?
the kennel and coop are inside the run so they can come and go from the coop when they want.

Holy cow, you built a special coop for them just for winter and you're feeling guilty

?

Any change in our group (any!) freaks them out. Maybe give it a few days to let them settle in? How would you feel if your bed disappeared overnight? lol

I have pics on here ( somewhere under the topic " we started our first coop ) it shows the process at the time of the coop - I will be updating with the final pics, but I do feel quilty about taking thier bed away !! I have been out there twice so far to check them - they have finally stopped making noise but they are still huddled in front of the " evil door" that will not let them out LOL
my poor confused ( but warm ) babies I feel like I put them in jail LOL

Well I went out this morning to open the " evil door " but before I did I opened the windows to take a look and see where everyone slept - they were still in frot of the door all huddled together.
I opened the door and they just kinda looked out no-one came out for a few minutes but than my little banty roo took the lead and marched right out down the ramp- and one by one his girls followed, they are no back in thier yard like nothing happened and a few of them have gone back into the coop.
After everyone was out I took a look around and they have plenty of poop on the floor !! and a few little feathers I guess they lost a few being stressed?
Now I just hope they dont give me a hard time about going back in there tonight LOL
