Chickens go through tunnel?

I want to make a separate area for my tortoise. Would chickens go through a tunnel 7" high x 11 " wide x 2 feet long or longer? I have a feeling I know the answer to this! Any suggestions for a chicken-proof entrance?

Exactly how tall is your tortoise?
The tortoise's shell is 6 1/2" at its highest point. Then we need to add just a bit for walking or scrunching along. He's about 11 inches wide. A tunnel would look just like a tortoise burrow to him, but length may not discourage the girls. They have demolished all the tortoise's food for browsing, of course.

Ya, any tunnel he can fit in, so can they. If you could train him to go through a swinging pet door, that might work. Of course the chickens might watch and learn that too.

A solid and dark tunnel might be slightly less trafficked by the chickens. Especially if you make it a long tunnel. Might be worth making a test tunnel with cardboard or something to test it out before you make it out of something more permanent.

What species of tortoise do you have? Personally I wouldn't keep chickens and tortoises together. Some of the same parasites can be passed to your tortoise which will eat poop and by the time you know he's sick it can be too late. They heal slowly and good tortoise vets are almost impossible to find. Just my 2 cents from all I have learned about tortoises. I have 3 leopards and a Russian. Also have hatched a few leopards.
Are you also a member of the tortoiseforum.org? Another great forum to talk and learn all the new care info about tortoise.
