I am an expert on chickens. Especially the ones that fit my description of same.
Residing in the great northern part of Canada has exposed me to chickens with two legs and feathers plus a few with no feathers.
Chicken is easy to find in most country homesteads. I prefer ones that are tender and easy to catch.
However I have had some roosters who are the biggest chickens I ever encountered. " Great Canadian Whites" Generally I find it best to sneak into the hen house, where roosters seem to gather, making very little sound. I make a fast grab of a roosters leg and quickly pin him to the ground. He makes a horrible sound, screaming, yelling, and gurgling. That is until I put his head under his wing and make my retreat. In my control he gives in to my will and " Kajoom " Chicken dinner.
Sounds like a " Skunk " Maybe so.
The truth is that I have had the wonderful experience of living on the farm. There were times I had to find work to make it work, but my heart always stayed on the farm. I have raised birds of all kinds over 50 years and to this day still keep learning.
I have trimmed down in birds but still keep my incubators running.
I am concentrating again on Quail as they always charmed me. Such busy little birds always in a hurry.
Now I want to get to know some of the folks from my roots in the USA, along with my Canadian bird lovers.
Joining this club will be a good step in that direction.
What a great world we enjoy. Made perfect, so fragile, so beautiful, life all around us, leaves me in awe.
