My chickens started molting about two months ago which is when they stopped laying eggs..they aren't quite a year and a half yet and they are two different breeds..they are silver laced wyandotte and Barred plymouth rock chickens..they have been good layers until now plus its winter time and the days are shorter...I have given them lots of protein and I give them the feather builder to help with their molting..son I was wondering if this is normal for young chickens of this breed to take this long before they lay eggs again or what..any help would be appreciated..thanks!

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

Yes it is normal. Some chickens can go 4 months or more from the start of a molt until they are ready to lay again. There isn't much you can do but wait it out. Laying is not only hormone driven but the short days also control their egg laying machines. So just give them time. Many of us are waiting on eggs to start to reappear as well!! LOL

Enjoy your flock and welcome to ours!
