The chickens have discovered the dog food bowl. I usually leave it full so the dog and how ever many cats I happen to have at the time can eat at will. Suddenly I found the bowl completely empty twice a day, and poo blobs that match the dog food color HMMMMMM. I have been putting the food away after I chore in the morning and putting it out again at night. Yesterday I put it in a creep that I made a few years ago and was going to use for chicks. The cats can get to it, but not the dog or chickens. A neighbor recommended a self feeder with a swinging lid. The hens are so brazen now that they congregate at the feed room and wait for me to put the dog food out.

How long will it take for them to figure out the self feeder?

Any suggestions?

I do not think that the dogfood will hurt them, it is just a little expensive.

Smart chickens! I have the same thing kinda. I have to feed the outside cats before I let the chickens out in the morning and after dark in the evening. If one shows up during the day. I have to put the food outside the fence. The chickens will run the cats off their food and gobble it down. Good luck.
