I don't have a covered run so I found an old truck cap for free. We set it about 7 feet from their chick door, and I set up a 2x6 ramp for them to walk to it. Works great as I toss scratch, some pine shavings or hay under there.

Here in Montana, I open the door every day and they decide. I can tell you the cold seems to make no difference if they stay in or not. They hate the howling wind we have though.
