my chickens always seem to huddle up and start itching at their chest and wings. i set up a dirt bath w DE but none of them seem to use it often. i dont see any visible sign of mites or bugs

Could just be grooming, unless it is a new behavior. We had terrible mites this year took forever to get rid of them. Ended up having to bath the chickens.

How old are your chickens, and where are you located? Look more closely on the skin under the belly, wings , and neck for tiny lice or mites, and their eggs or droppings. Permethrin is very good to use to treat those if you find evidence of them, the coop bedding must be emptied, and the whole coop must be treated as well. Mites will need retreating in 7 days, while lice would need retreating in 10 days. This link has good pictures of what to look for as well as treatments:

They are 6 months old . I’m in Florida. It’s in my backyard. I sprinkled the coop and run w DE. They just started itching a few days ago.
When they scratch , it’s almost like dandruff and a feather or two that come out
