Does anyone else have a problem with random chickens showing up? This is the 4th time I’ve had rando chickens homestead here. I have to keep quarantining everytime this happens because I have a multi age flock of 20 birds. Last week a roo showed up. Today I have two extra Rhode Island Reds and some bantam looking rooster. I live in the middle of nowhere. 🤷‍♂️

Dumped chickens would be my guess as well.
Do these people not see what eggs cost? How could you cast out chickens. The feed store is paying $7/doz for farm eggs right now. Ours our feeding us, covering their feed and hay costs and then still making some change.

They might not lay any more, or they don't know chickens start laying again in the spring. Who knows. Free chickens!

Could be dumped chickens.

Right.

Unfortunately, people frequently dump unwanted roosters.

But, given that the OP is in Louisiana, there is also the possibility of chickens that went feral after storms destroyed their housing.

Free dinner.
If I had intruder chickens endangering my birds, it would not be my flock that paid the cost. And if I knew who was dumping the chickens it would be a slaughter and return (not processed) so people got the idea.

I kept them separate a couple of weeks. They had no indication of sickness so I introduced them to the flock. They integrated very well. I definitely wasn’t going to turn away 2x Rhode Island hens.

If its like anything else i ge t all kinds of dumped animals and semiferal animals that show up in st landry parish

Nice you get bonus hens to help out!!
Hope they are healthy and happy for you. Terrific you are able to provide and make costs ++ great function.

We have LOTS of feral chickens on island but gamecocks randomly wander into my neighbors yard and then up to my fences. Attracted to the sounds and smell of my flock I'd imagine.

Not nice to make their problem someone else's but let's face it, some people just suck.
