Chickens kill a cat?

I found a dead cat outside my coop a few days ago. My first thought was another predator got it. But the more I think about it why didn’t it get my birds? I have 5 acres and tons of wildlife. Bear, raccoons, Fox, possums, even fishers. Cats aren’t easy to catch. Sleeping chickens are.
I’m wondering if it jumped in the coop and was injured by the birds, jumped out and died from injuries. Am I crazy or could this have happened. Not to be gross but I could only tell it was a particular feral cat by its fur colors. It was mostly gone by maggots so I couldn’t see any injuries.

Thank you both for replying. I’m new to the whole chicken thing so I didn’t even think to let the chickens deal with the maggots! I have a few feral cats that I see watching my birds but they don’t seem to be stalking them. Just curious. Well you know about the curious cat right? Lol That was my thought at least. I’m glad to hear it wasn’t my birds. I quite like the cats on the property. I’d hate to see that sight again. As a matter of fact, the one killed was my favorite.
